TORRES w/ Special Guest Bershy at The Woodward Theater

On Friday, July 19, 2024, The Woodward Theater will host a dynamic performance from TORRES along with local breakout star, Bershy. Need a pair of tickets? Register to win our Giveaway!

TORRES, the stage name of Brooklyn resident Mackenzie Scott, has been garnering acclaim in the indie rock world since her debut in 2013. Known for her powerful vocals and deeply personal songwriting, Scott's latest album, What an enormous room, explores a dichotomy of apprehension and security through deep introspection. Recorded in Durham, North Carolina, and featuring contributions from Sarah Jaffe, the album is a masterclass in setting emotion to sound.

Tracks like “Collect” tackle themes of ambition and justice with a raw, commanding presence that is both confrontational and captivating with lyrics that explore the tension between expectation and reality, as TORRES declares:

"I know what you expect / You expect to be first / You claim what you didn't earn / Is that what you deserve? / Is that what you deserve?”

Followed by an epic repetition of:

"Did I hit a nerve? Did I hit a nerve?" and "I'm here to collect. I'm here to collect."

Torres featured on KEXP, 2024

As a queer woman in an historically male-dominated genre and industry, TORRES is a unique and vital voice in contemporary indie rock.

Local Sensation BERSHY Opens the Night

Opening the evening is Cincinnati's own Bershy, the vibrant alter ego of singer-songwriter Brea Shay. Bershy has quickly become a local favorite, known for her infectious "gay pop music" and high-energy performances. Her hit single "Radio" has already surpassed 689,000 streams, a significant achievement for an independent artist from Cincinnati.

On her latest release, "4U," Bershy dives deep into the complexities of desire and vulnerability. With lyrics that paint vivid pictures of longing, she sings, “Tried to brush it off, I tried to write a song about something stupid just so I could get my head around you, swear I tried to fight, I tried to let my good side out, but it came out wrong, it only comes for you now.”

Bershy's energetic stage presence and commitment to creating an inclusive, welcoming atmosphere make her one of the most exciting up-and-coming artists in the local music scene.
