10. "Baddy On The Floor (Feat. Honey Dijon)" - Jamie xx

DJ Jamie xx has collaborated with American DJ Honey Dijon to create “Baddy On The Floor.” This track is Jamie xx’s first released single leading up to his highly anticipated second album. Baddy On The Floor is the newest release after Jamie xx (James Thomas Smith) released "It's So Good" on January 9th (see what Stereogum has to say about it here).A fast paced beat and classic instruments like the piano and trumpet make for a song that you can listen to all day, or all night. Check out Jamie xx’s website to stay up to date on his latest releases!

9. "Nice Town (Feat. Pan Amsterdam)" - Metronomy

British EDM band Metronomy joined musical forces with rapper Pan Amsterdam to give us this new single - just after Metronomy member Joseph Mount said that he would be continuing forward as lead songwriter and only permanent member.” This comes following the announcement that Metronomy would be taking an extended break from performing live. While we love to go and see artists out on the road, we also know that time off can lead to great things creatively.  We are excited to see the new, differing sounds Metronomy will make during this period and hopefully we get some more collaborations like this. Keep track here!

8. "Monaco" - Ride

If this is fear / Can you hear it?”

“This pressure / Can you feel it?”

Loaded up with plenty of 80’s synth and a dramatic beat, "Monaco" is an energizing track from Ride, featured on their recent release Interplay (their seventh studio album). Check out the new record on their Bandcamp page.

We welcome Ride back to the A List, last seen on April 19th!

7. "Just In Time" - Good Morning

Coming off of Good Morning’s new album, “Just In Time” pulls you in with a sweet melodious start, and sure doesn’t drop that vibe later. The harmonies in this are just right!  Good Morning’s Good Morning Seven is a lengthy double album that we are so happy to receive, as their last album release was in 2021.  Apparently, the band had to narrow down this album from a whopping selection of 70 tracks. Wow!

6. "Gen-X Cops" - Vampire Weekend

Back again, YET again, this week is Vampire Weekend. Vampire Weekend makes strides with their new material. The longevity in relevance of this band is truly astounding!  Pitchfork reviewed this specific track saying that “its scattered arrangement of sputtering distortion and tiptoe piano has an off-ness that acts as a window into their fifth album.” We definitely hear the polarization between the guitar distortion that sounds almost like it belongs in a surf rock album, and the more gentle piano – yet, it’s a perfect pairing for the near-dystopian vision of this track. It also just sounds sick.

5. "Girlfriend Is Better (Talking Heads Cover)" - Girl in Red

Girl in Red, last seen on our March 29th A List, is the latest artist to come out with a Talking Heads tribute record. Paramore covered the band’s famous song “Burning Down The House” back in January, and Talking Heads frontman David Byrne, following suit, even released his own version of Paramore’s “Hard Times". There is some very, very exciting news in that A24 has announced that it is putting together a Talking Heads tribute album featuring the two aforementioned tracks, as well as features from Miley Cyrus, Lorde, Toro y Moi (covering Tom Tom Club!), Blondshell and more. In total, there are 16 tracks on this album from 16 different artists. This comes after A24 re-released the Talking Heads concert film Stop Making Sense in theaters back in 2023. The film gained some acclaim and popularity in its first go-round, but the re-release sent it soaring to new levels. The movie truly showed all of the dedication, artistry, creativity, and plain hard work that went into the production and execution of Talking Heads concerts, and it is truly something to behold. It was officially released May 17th, and you can listen to it on Youtube, Spotify, or Apple Music.  We are so excited about this tribute album! Preorder the physical album here.

4. "Like I Say (I Runaway)" - Nilüfer Yanya

Nilüfer Yanya, a British artist, gives us her new single “Like I Say (I Runaway)” after her last release in 2022 (her album PAINLESS). We can hear her rock roots in this song, and we are excited for all that's to come due to her recent signing with Ninja Tune

3. "Crybaby" - Cults

“Crybaby” by iconic American band Cults is a dreamy, soft single release that ended the band’s 2 year long drought of no new music. Cults will embark on a 2024 tour, starting with Lollapalooza in August. Catch them September 20th in Cincinnati at The ICON Festival Stage along with Vampire Weekend – tickets are available at this site

2. "Pennies" - Tooth Lures A Fang

Local Cincinnati rock band Tooth Lures a Fang makes an appearance at #2 on our A List this week with “Pennies,” a track from their 2023 album Fake Control. If you haven’t heard of this band, be sure to check them out as they are a real up and comer. I hear a lot of the 90s in their sound, as well as a refreshing authenticity. Go check them out and support them on their Bandcamp page!

1. "Starburster" - Fontaines D.C.

Showing up at #1 on the A List for the second consecutive week, Fontaines D.C. impresses us with their new single "Starburster", which was released on April 17. Rolling Stone magazine talked about this release in an article, saying that “frontman Grian Chatten suffered a panic attack in a London tube station and decided to chronicle that feeling on a funky, disco-rock track.” We can hear the anxiety in the loud, jutting gasps, and see it in the frankly chaos-filled music video. It is a great expression of thought into music. Starburster comes after the release of their album Skinty Fia, and secondary release Skinty Fia go deo, in 2022 and 2023.

"Starburster" is a look into what's to come with Fontaines D.C.'s new album, Romance, which is scheduled to release on August 23.

Same time next week? Thanks for joining us for this A List!
