FACS and Hissing Tiles: Noise Rock at MOTR

FACS

If there is one thing we can all agree on it’s that music is an art form. Whether you are listening to indie/alternative, hip-hop, jazz, or something in between, all music has a level of artistry to it. On June 2nd at MOTR, two bands will be playing that are constantly trying to push the envelope in music and have a truly unique sound that clearly illustrates music as art. These bands are FACS and Hissing Tiles.

FACS is a band hailing from Chicago that was formed by the remnants of another band named Disappears. Describing their band as “modern art rock,” the band consists of Brian Case, Noah Leger, and Alianna Kalaba. Currently, with only one full-length album out titled Negative Houses, the band is young but up-and-coming. They've already being featured in such music websites like Stereogum and Brooklyn Vegan and on other major news sites like the Chicago Tribune and the Chicago Reader. Their sound is a combination of post-punk, with a level of industrial, and a little dash of new wave thrown in there for good measure. their sound draws influence from bands like Joy Division, Soft Kill, Nine Inch Nails, and Bauhaus.

Hissing Tiles is another very unique act that will be performing. Hailing from Cincinnati, the band consists of members BJ Marsee on the drums, Erik Ziedses on bass and vocals, and Michael Squeri on guitar and vocals. Formed in 2013 the band has one full-length album titled Aces Read Me To Sleep and two EPs titled Fake Bulbs and Phone Commercial. With a very animated live performance (mostly coming from vocalist Michael Squeri) their sound is what the band describes as “noise punk.” Drawing influence from many different styles of music including post-punk, punk, hardcore, and noise, their music is similar to bands like Big Ups and Pissed Jeans with an experimental rock aspect to it. Hissing Tiles is definitely a band that is pushing the boundaries of music and a band you do not want to miss seeing live.

The night of June 2nd is shaping up to be a night of some truly unique music at MOTR. Whether you are there to see the bands or just want to check out some bands you’ve never listened to before, this show is sure to be one that you will definitely not forget. And while you are there be sure to say hi to the folks of Inhailer at the show, we would love to get your take on what you think makes these bands so unique.
