Cincinnati alternative hip hop and indie rock band Why? is taking the stage at The Woodward Theater! If you aren’t familiar with their sound, it's sure to strike you as different. This is an incredibly talented and compelling artist you won't want to miss!
Founded in 2004, Why? is spearheaded by Queen City native Yoni Wolf and consists of Josiah Wolf (Yoni’s brother) as drummer and backup vocalist and Doug McDiarmid and Matt Meldon as multi-intrumentalists and backup vocalists. They're kicking off their cross-country tour supporting their latest album, Moh Llean, in their hometown, and they'll be supported by another alternative hop hop artists from LA, Open Mike Eagle.
Are you wondering what hip hop and indie rock/pop sound like together? As any Why? song can tell you, when mixed properly, pretty rad. Moh Llean was released last year, their fifth studio album and first release in five years, and was produced here in Cincinnati. It's comprised of electronic riffs, reflective lyrics, and emotional rock undercurrents that are sure to shake things up. CityBeat sat down with Yoni Wolf to ask what Moh Llean is all about. He said the newfound calmness on the record is a means of "trying to be more at peace and accepting about what’s going on in [his] life."
Why? is an innovative group that aims to bend the rules and break the genre walls that often envelop the music scene. They've helped shape the sound of Cincinnati. Intrigued? We'll see you at set break!
