why is nine inch nails bleeped for "i want to **** you like an animal" but pearl jam isn't bleeped for "seemed a harmless little ****"? is there something about american rules that makes the meaning of the word bleepable in different contexts?
Sensing the indie banger after banger we got going here, digging it! Different world from the 'modern rock' 500, as it should be in 2024. (Kinda surprised that wasn't updated to "alternative rock 500", or something else by the mid 90s)
It should be:326: Tori Amos - Silent All These Years325: Arcade Fire - Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) 324: Car Seat Headrest - Drunk Drivers/Killer Whales
My They Might Be Giants began with hearing them on Dr. Demento in the pre-Birdhouse era. I got to see them perform at the IU campus in Bloomington in 1990 when it was just the two of them and a backing tape. The t-shirt I got is a mess but I still have it.
Feels like the list swung almost too far to the new, but not a bad problem to have, and we're also near the top where those songs are more likely to make their way in.
I grew up in greater Cincinnati (listening to 97X) but now live closer to Columbus. I only discovered Inhailer during last year's Modern Rock 500 and have been listening ever since. While I loved the pure nostalgia of the MR500, so far I think I prefer this year's music.
I put together a Spotify playlist of all of this year's Indie 500 songs: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2lvYnRHQ7Aj8OWmNyZ2vVl?si=a7f4535582eb4325
And here's 2023: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3heUI2yEKjsSH0PKsOPZAx?si=6c3f83df90bc4db6
If you notice any errors in either, let me know. Note: Metamagic's Let Go got swapped with Life Like Art because Spotify didn't have the former.
I also found two for 97x. Here's the songs that were played on all 97x's Modern Rock 500: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0ndUg4bPCgBesDtw8yvYit?si=e5f5e8eb990245ca
And here's a list where someone found the top 500 from that list: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2gvhUaHmSc3bIeGJO5Qu5q?si=4160a7dcd8e948f2
Ooooh Smells Like Teen Spirit gets bumped off the top by Lovesong
FINAL 25 LET'S GO
Once you decide that Damon Albarn sounds like Bob Dylan on the chorus of Clint Eastwood, you can never go back

Well race fans, it's Day 5 and we are down to the final 100! Who will come in at lap 1?
With Chaise Longue at lap 110, does anyone have a pick for the Top 100 that has come out after 2022?
Ahh...dancing to Ministry.

I think it's a sign of good use of an instrument (e.g.; banjo), if you didn't even notice it. AIR uses it too, surprisingly. #sneakinginthebanjo
Ali is the best!!
Me when Goo Goo Muck was playing

Street cred among the teenage set here just skyrocketed with Lucy Dacus at 477.
